The Peak District Trip 2007

After a promising April, the weather in May and June had been very unkind to climbers, deteriorating to major floods across the County by the week before we were due to go. With forecasts of more torrential rain, the number of people going to the Peaks was dropping noticeably.

Intro to South Coast Sea Cliffs

At 6am, after a clear night I waited near bottle alley to be picked up. The talk in the car was mainly of the weather reports. All was well until the A27 at Polegate when a few drops of the wet stuff started to appear on the windscreen. No one mentioned them for a while, but I had to ask! How far do you drive in the rain before you decide that it’s a wash out? Dick ever the optimist assured us it would clear up and be Mediterranean when we got there.

Unusual Holiday option

Take a big red specially converted climbing expedition vehicle with a 13 foot bouldering wall on the back. Add 20-35 climbers from all around the globe and head off across the globe developing new rock climbing areas and stopping at the best of the established ones. That's Hot Rock.

Coast to Coast by Mountain Bike

Before he could change his mind, maps were purchased B&Bs booked, the training schedule organised and on a fine September Saturday Jenny drops us on the seafront in St. Bees ready to go…..

Fish River Canyon 06

Just after 7 am my cell phone bleeped with a text. It was the day of our departure and I sleepily rolled out of bed to read the text. It was from Kevin who said “We are not going to be able to take hand luggage”
“Why?” I text back
“Because there is a bomb threat” he replied.

Peak District Trip 2006

The end of July again saw the normal peace and quiet of The Peak District disturbed by the carnival that is “HRFC On Tour”!
This year to minimise the impact on the locals, a staggered approach was made and the arrival to the camp site was made over 2 days. A good plan and we got away with it!

Tim and Jenny’s Classic (wet) Welsh Rock weekend – Group A’s trip

Well, it was doomed to failure when Tim announced he was going to Africa instead, followed by the BBC weather announcing it was going to be grim all weekend…..so Dick, robbed yet again of his annual pilgrimage to Kirkus, relocated us to Swanage.
